New trailer for “Moana” teases the birth of a glorious legend
After teasing Moana and Maui's new voyage with a trailer back in May, Disney revealed a new look at the animated sequel, Moana 2, at its D23 event on Friday.
Originally developed as a TV series, the upcoming Moana film is set to hit theaters on November 27. Here's the official trailer for the musical sequel, which is set three years after the first 2016 film:
According to a Disney synopsis, Moana 2 will see the protagonist embark on an adventure “after receiving an unexpected call from a wayfinding ancestor.” Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho will reprise their voice roles as Maui and Moana. In addition to Moana 2, a live-action version of the first film is scheduled for release in 2026.
Previous trailers have taken viewers to Motunui and beyond as Moana sets off on a new journey beyond the reef, featuring familiar faces like the shape-shifting demigod Maui, Heihei the chicken, and Pua the pig, who Maui calls “an upgrade for the ship's snacks.”
The video features footage of the fearsome Kakamora, breathtaking whale sharks and Moana saying, “This is a call from our ancestors to set sail into new skies, to cross the oceans and reunite our people.”
