Williams Racing confirmed on Friday that Nicholas Latifi will leave the team at the end of the F1 season.
The 27-year-old driver made his F1 debut with Williams at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix. He made 55 starts in his career and scored 7 points.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Williams Racing, all those who have returned to the factory and those I work trackside,” Latifi said in a team release. “My first Formula 1 debut was postponed due to the pandemic, but in the end I was able to go to Austria. Together we didn’t achieve the result we wanted, but It was still a wonderful trip.
Latifi has not announced any future plans.
Potential candidates to replace him at the wheel of Williams include American Logan Sargent and Dutch driver Nick de Vries.
“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to say a huge thank you to Nicholas for his three years of hard work at Williams. Well liked, respected throughout the business,” said Williams CEO and team principal Jost Capito.
“Our time together is coming to an end, but I know he will do everything in his power to get the best out of what we can do together for the rest of this season… from the cockpit.”
The 2022 F1 season has six races left from the Singapore Grand Prix on October 2nd.
