No smoking and barbecue in the Berlin forest –

In Berlin, the risk of forest fires is very high due to the ongoing drought.

The Senate Environment Department urged people on Thursday (June 16, 2022) to adhere to smoking and barbecue bans in and near forests. “Dry leaves, needles, branches and twigs ignite easily.” According to the statement, violations of smoking and fire bans will result in fines of at least € 100 up to € 50,000.

Continued drought since March

As a result of the drought that has continued since March, the forest floor is very flammable. Even cigarette butts and hot exhaust components thrown out of a car are dangerous and can ignite. It was further said that the weather forecast would expect further increases in danger. In the next few days, Berlin will be warm and hot in the summer, with Saturdays up to 34 degrees Celsius.
