Efforts to reach a peace deal in Cyprus will be undermined by the US decision to lift the arms embargo on Greece’s Cypriot regime, writes the Turkish Daily Saba.

Turkey strongly condemned the US decision, warning it would lead to an arms race and undermine regional stability.

Tatar President Ersin issued a statement warning that lifting the arms embargo could also increase tensions between NATO members Turkey and Greece.

“The Greek-Cypriot regime is expected to further accelerate its armed efforts and provocative posture, so we are not lazy“, He said.

The Tatar president added that the US decision validated the TRNC’s request that Turkey remain the guarantor of Turkish Cypriots.

The U.S. has lifted defense trade restrictions on Greece’s Cypriot government for fiscal year 2023, the State Department said Friday.

Following that, the TRNC Foreign Affairs Department called the US decision:unacceptable”.
