Turkish Cypriots deserve an independent and honorable life, President Ersin Tatar said, Turkish Daily Saba reported.
At the Global Quality Summit in Istanbul on Monday, Tatar Prime Minister said the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) expects the international community to lift the embargo and restrictions on the country.
“With these injustices done to us by the international community, they are trying to cut us off from the international community, which is cruel in a way.
“We do not support a partnership with the Commonwealth of Cyprus, that is, with the Greek Cypriots, because if the new partnership in Cyprus is federally based, this will be the beginning of the end for the Turks in Cyprus. What they always said and wanted to do years ago was to kick Turkiye out of Cyprus.
“If an agreement is reached in Cyprus, it would be a northern Turkish state, not a partnership, but a cooperation of two separate coexisting provinces. ” said the Tatar president.
The federation does not serve the TRNC’s national interests, Tatar added.
Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan conveyed similar sentiments to the international community in his address to the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“TTogether with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we have made a good faith effort. We call on the international community to end the persecution of Turkish Cypriots and officially recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as soon as possible.‘ said Erdogan.
The dispute between Turks and Greek Cypriots in Cyprus has continued for decades despite a series of diplomatic attempts by the United Nations to reach a comprehensive solution.
