Northern Cyprus News | Scramble to buy liquor after price increases are announced

Monday, March 28, 2022.

Restaurant and bar owners are worried about how they will continue to operate after the recent alcohol price increases.

According to the official bulletin, tariffs on beer have increased from 3TL to 15TL per liter. For spirits such as whiskey, tequila and rocky, it was raised from 13 TL to 50 TL per liter, and for wine it was raised from 4 TL to 20 TL per liter. This is to increase the government’s price stability fund.

Moreover, like many foods such as bread, vegetables and meat, electricity bills are rising. Restaurant owners are wondering how to survive.

On the other hand, prior to the price increase of alcoholic beverages, the shelves of the supermarket were emptied, and after the price increase was announced, some shop owners did not sell it.
