Norwegian Automobile Federation calls for easier payment methods for fast charging of electric vehicles

The Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) believes the government should offer easier payment options and larger charging points for fast-charging electric vehicles.

“Today, a well-prepared electric vehicle driver must have 10-12 charging apps on their mobile phone, and enter their bank card, name and address in each app. If you do, you have to start all over again, it doesn’t work at all,” said NAF’s Thor Egil Bradland.

This fall, the government will propose a new charger strategy. This spring, the Norwegian Roads Authority and the Norwegian Environment Agency developed a knowledge base for this charging strategy. In it, it is stated that the need for quick chargers in 2030 will be about 11,000 for light vehicles and 1,500-2,000 for heavy vehicles.

Currently, there are about 4,000 fast chargers for light vehicles in Norway, but no fast chargers for heavy vehicles.

NAF also believes it needs to develop larger charging stations.

“The Norwegian model was to build two 50 kW fast chargers. We have to,” said Bradland.
