Norwegian NGO calls on Biden to end the systematic expulsion of Palestinians by Israel

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) must put Israel’s continued breach and the expulsion of Palestinians at the top of his agenda when US President Joe Biden visits Israel and Palestinians this week.

Since Biden took office, NGOs have said Israeli occupying authorities have increased both the expansion and demolition of reconciliation. In the first six months of this year, Israel approved a plan for 4,427 homes in an occupied Israeli settlement on the west coast. This is a significant increase from the 3,645 units approved last year as a whole.

“This visit provides President Biden and the United States with a good opportunity to demand systematic and routine violations of Palestinians, especially the eviction and demolition of peasants that continue to destroy homes and livelihoods,” the NRC said. Middle East Regional Director Carsten Hansen said.

According to a recent analysis by the NRC, Biden has been in office daily since January 2021, and Israel has expelled an average of three Palestinians. According to UN OCHA, it has evacuated a total of 1,657 people as a result of the demolition of 1,269 buildings in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Since Prime Minister Jail Rapid took office on July 1, Israel has destroyed 18 buildings and expelled 17 Palestinians.

“Behind these numbers are the movement of humans, the expulsion of families with nowhere to go, and the true stories of children watching bulldozers run through the only homes they have ever known. As one of the strongest allies, the United States and President Biden must prioritize the plight of Palestinians during their visits to the region, “Hansen said.

In May, the Israeli High Court rejected all petitions for the forced transfer of up to 1,200 Palestinians in most of the southern-occupied West Bank of the Jordan River, which Israel declared a closed military zone.

“”[The court decision] For the inhabitants, it means the loss of homes and villages, and the evacuation of the area, “said the head of the Masafa Yatta Council of Nidal Abu Alam.

The NRC also urged Biden to demand that Israel issue a moratorium on the expulsion and displacement of Palestinians and the expansion of settlements.
