Norwegians are less shopping after a pandemic, new data show

During the pandemic, shopping increased significantly among Norwegians. Now this trend is reversed and Norwegians are spending more on festivals and restaurants.

DNB card usage data show that Norwegian consumption patterns have changed significantly compared to the pandemic, the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv wrote.

“Now I’m not sitting at home as much as I was in a pandemic, there’s a clear change in shopping trends,” said Ine Offtedal of DNB.

The largest drop that DNB has registered for Norwegian card use is in the “Home and Hobbies” aggregate category, which includes furniture, electronics, sporting goods, toys and games, hobbies, and interiors. Within this category, card usage has decreased by almost 20% compared to the summer of 2020.

Handelsbanken Chief Economist Marius GonsholtHov told DN that service consumption has recovered again after the pandemic.

“During the pandemic, we saw a sharp increase in the consumption of goods and a sharp decrease in the consumption of services. After the resumption of society, the consumption of services naturally recovered again. People were festive and I’m in a restaurant and prioritize nightlife, “hob said.
