A rig contract has been signed to drill the Veloset exploration well operated by OMV in the Norwegian Sea, according to project partners at North Sea oil and gas company Longboat Energy.

Velocette (PL 1016) will be drilled using a semi-submersible Transocean Norge and is expected to be drilled in the third quarter of 2023, according to the company.

The Velocette is a gas-condensate prospect over Cretaceous Nise turbidite sands on the eastern flank of Utgard High, identified after recent earthquake reprocessing.

Longboat says Velocet is benefiting from seismic amplitude anomalies that indicate gas-filled sands located within tieback distance from the Equinor producing Aastah-Hunstein oil field (~45 km). increase.

Helge Hammer, Chief Executive Officer of Longboat Energy, commented: The Oswig well is currently being drilled and both Velocette and Oswig prospects have significant follow-on potential that, if successful, will be de-risked by exploratory wells.

OMV is the operator of Velocette with a 40% stake, along with partners Longboat (20%) and INPEX (40%).
