The Sharjah Bureau of Economic Development (SEDD) states that the total number of licenses issued and renewed in the first quarter of 2022 reached 17,059.
This shows a growth rate of over 7%, or 1,139 licenses, over the same period in 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, the number of licenses issued reached 1979 and the number of renewed licenses reached 15,080.
The growth rate of issued industrial licenses increased by 20%, while issued professional licenses increased by 18% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
Meanwhile, the total number of renewed licenses (commercial, professional, industrial, Eitimad, and e-commerce) increased by 8%, 5%, 13%, and 28% in the first quarter of this year. According to the news agency WAM, each was 525% compared to the first quarter of 2021.
Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of SEDD’s Commercial Management and Protection Department, confirmed that the department has conducted 41,641 inspection campaigns on various economic facilities in the Emirate.
SEDD has processed 2,970 complaints received in the first quarter of this year. The complaints received were distributed with consumer protection complaints, which account for the largest share of 2,463 complaints, followed by 352 commercial fraud complaints and 155 service agent complaints.
Fahad Al Khamiri, director of SEDD’s registration and licensing department, said the increase in business licenses is in line with the general growth of Sharjah’s GDP. SEDD is committed to simplifying services and procedures to facilitate business registration procedures, issue business licenses, and provide greater flexibility for investors to establish their businesses faster. He added.
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce (SCCI) said earlier this month that an estimated 1,996 new companies have joined and 15,572 members have been updated in the first quarter of this year, the highest since 2018. The total number of registered members of SCCI has reached 17,568. 8% increase compared to 2021.
