BIRMINGHAM, 6 August (Bernama) — National mixed doubles paddlers Javen Chun-Karen Lin thrashed the form book with a 3-1 victory over No. 3 seed Clarence Chu Je Yu-Zen Jiang of Singapore. I repeated. The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are here today.
The unseeded Malaysians were clearly in their element as they gave the fancy Singaporeans a 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7 win here at the National Exhibition Center .
It was certainly sweet revenge for the Malaysian who lost to the same pair in the quarterfinals of the SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam in May.
Their reward for a spectacular performance is a gold medal showdown with India’s Sharath Kamal Ahchanta Sreeja Akra. Other semi-finals.
National team manager Tin Hie Ping said he was pleased with the pair’s performance in their second international match since forming the pair earlier this year.
“We didn’t expect them to reach the final as our goal was just to reach the quarterfinals (for them). I hope we can,” she said.
She added that her confidence was based on her quarterfinal victory over India’s Sathyan Nyanasekaran Manika Batra. They are the top seeds in mixed doubles and are ranked in the top 10 in the world.
For the record, Malaysia has never won a mixed doubles medal at the Commonwealth Games.
At the 2018 edition on Australia’s Gold Coast, the National Paddlers won just one bronze medal in women’s doubles.
At Birmingham 2022, Malaysia has already won silver in the women’s team event.
