Pakistan’s national exchequer robbed billions of dollars to benefit private TV channels

New Delhi: An insider story of a controversial and suspicious illegal partnership between Pakistan Television (PTV) and a private ARY channel has come to light, The News International reported.

According to details obtained by Geo News, Pakistan’s national broadcasters have been robbed of billions of rupees to benefit private news channels that did not have sports channels when they became partners with ICC broadcast rights. ..

The entire game began in August 2021 when PTV announced a bid for an ICC broadcast rights partnership that did not mention the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The ARY Consortium was involved in ICC broadcasting because its sports channel “A Sports” did not exist and was not licensed.

The PTV board was also unaware of this issue.

PSL was not mentioned in the ICC broadcast rights bid in August 2002, and PTV Sports kept PTV’s board in the dark and approved a partnership with Ten Sports, but then quietly with A Sports. The report said it had partnered.

Under the “Expression of Interest” in August 2021, an attempt was made to support ARY as the PTV contract was between Group M and the ARY consortium.

However, for PSL, the party was changed and a consortium was created with ARY alone.

The publicly funded PTV has not yet provided details of the August 2021 agreement at the expense of Pakistan’s state channel and state-owned billions of rupees, the report added.
