The Premier League club Aston Villa has risen from the 16th to the 10th since Steven Gerrard arrived at Villa Park as a manager.
Steven Gerrard said it’s commendable that Aston Villa has climbed the Premier League table since he was in charge of the club in Birmingham.
“The players deserve praise for performing and performing these performances,” the villa club manager said on Friday.
When Gerrard left Scottish champion Rangers on behalf of Dean Smith, who was dismissed as manager in November, Villa lost five games in a row, just two points above the relegation zone.
Since Gerrard’s arrival at Villa Park, the club has risen from 16th to 10th, and when he returns to Chelsea on Sunday, he will aim for his fifth win in seven games.
Gerrard, who brought in some of the coach staff from the Glasgow giant Rangers, said:
Players performed “very well”
Former Liverpool and England captains added:
“There are a lot of exciting fixtures and I think the players are doing very well in terms of point returns.”
Under Gerrard, Villa defeated Brighton, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Norwich, slightly losing the title battle between Manchester City and Liverpool.
“We were about to score points from the City match,” Gerrard said. “The Liverpool match was a little different. They dominated most.”
“Athletes should be confident. They should have a lot of beliefs towards a really busy schedule,” he added.
