Despite recent seizures and uprooting of cannabis seedlings, there have been notably fewer seizures by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) and other drug enforcement agencies this year compared to last year.

This is the conclusion that Casimerini drew from the available statistics he saw.

In the first half of 2022, 8,963 cannabis saplings were seized nationwide, compared to 42,000 found and uprooted during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the number of cannabis seedlings found by narcotics agents in 2021 exceeded 87,000, according to the recently released annual report of the Drug Enforcement Agency.

63% of the arrested growers are Greek, the rest Albanian, and the commercial value of the seized cannabis is estimated at €245 million.
