Pope calls for global abolition of the death penalty

(ANSA) – ROME, August 31 – Pope Francis announced his prayer intentions for September and called for a global abolition of the death penalty in a video released Wednesday.

“Every day there are more and more voices against the death penalty around the world,” the Argentinian pope said.

“For the church, this is a sign of hope.” Franks said the death penalty was “morally unacceptable.”

“Let us pray that the death penalty, which attacks human dignity, is legally abolished in all countries.” (ANSA).
