Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed an order on simplified procedures for granting citizenship to foreigners who have signed contracts to serve in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This document is published on the official legal information web portal.
According to the order, to be eligible for the simplified citizenship process, foreigners must sign a contract of at least one year length and participate in military activities for at least six months. Spouses, children and parents of contract soldiers are also entitled to citizenship.
If a contract soldier is killed before he officially obtains citizenship, his family is entitled to simplified citizenship, regardless of how long he has served on the front lines.
