The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a United Nations agency that promotes the peaceful use of nuclear energy, approved several projects in 2022/2023 in collaboration with Qatar.
Qatar’s Environment and Climate Change Ministry is working with the United Nations IAEA on many projects in the field of nuclear research. The ministry, on behalf of the Department of Radiochemical Protection, states that the planned project will also cover the area of food safety and will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health. Other objectives include strengthening Qatar’s ability in radiodiagnosis of diseases with Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medicine, as well as strengthening monitoring and monitoring of radiation applications in the environmental, medical and industrial fields.
The project also covers the establishment of a secondary calibration laboratory for radioactive equipment to improve Qatar’s radiation protection program. The lab is expected to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East. In addition to the Environment and Climate Change Ministry, which primarily oversees these initiatives, several authorities and agencies are expected to be involved.
Currently, Qatar has more than 35 technical cooperation projects with the IAEA, 23 of which are regional, 10 of which are national and two of which are being implemented at the global level.
The project aims to enhance agriculture in improving animal production, medicine and human health in the fight against illness, the environmental sector to combat pollution and climate change, and the management of radiation activity and the peaceful use of atomic energy. It covers a wide range of fields, including other fields. ..
