Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup.

Only two goals were scored this time.

David Alaba and Karim Benzema scored goals in each half and Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Alaba opened the scoring from close range in the 37th minute when Casemiro held back a Benzema header from a corner kick. The French star then won his fifth Super Cup his title in his 65th, thanks to a lively Vinicius his junior assists.

It was Benzema’s 324th goal for Madrid, overtaking club legend Raul. After scoring 450 goals for the club between 2009 and 2018, only Cristiano Ronaldo has more than that.

Benzema, who also joined Madrid in 2009, lifted the trophy for the first time as captain after taking over from Marcelo.

Barcelona and AC Milan are clubs that have won the Super Cup five times.

But the matches between Champions League winners Madrid and Europa League champions Frankfurt didn’t quite match the spectacle of their previous encounters.

Their only other competitive match was the 1960 European Cup final, where Alfredo Di Stéfano scored three goals and Ferenc Puskas scored four goals to give Madrid a 7–3 win and their fifth consecutive European Cup final. brought the crown of

Frankfurt goalscorer Erwin Stein and teammate Dieter Stinka were in Helsinki for a rematch after 62 years. The three veterans who met face to face before kickoff warmly embraced each other.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti started with his established squad and was forced to watch from the bench with new signings Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Chuameni.

Frankfurt were looking to fix their 6-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in last Friday’s Bundesliga opener.

Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindström saved Thibaut Courtois early on but was flagged for offside. The Danish midfielder has become the first player in a European club competition to mandate UEFA’s new semi-automatic offside technology.

Lindstrom then set up Daichi Kamata, who was onside before Courtois blocked his shot. Those were Frankfurt’s only real chances.

Vinicius Junior gave Madrid the first big chance, but fellow Brazilian Tuta slipped in to deny him.

Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp made a great save, stopping Vinicius Junior’s next shot in the 37th minute, but Madrid rallied from that corner when Benzema and Casemiro combined to give Alaba an easy finish. Scored.

As Madrid ended the first half in the lead, Benzema closed in shortly afterwards and Vinicius Junior tested the trap again early in the second half.

When the Brazilian cut inside to score Benzema’s goal, the French forward fired a direct shot to avoid the trap.

Relieved by the two-goal cushion, the Spanish champions began to turn on their style with complex passing combinations.

“We didn’t play a great match, but we were really solid, as always,” said Ancelotti. Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup.
