Real Madrid defeat Barcelona to advance to the Spanish Super Cup final

Riyadh: Real Madrid defeated Classico five times in a row on Wednesday to advance to the Spanish Super Cup final, but Barcelona’s young guns show why it is believed that the club’s recovery has begun. At the end of the pulsating contest in Saudi Arabia, Madley scraped 3-2 after overtime. As expected, Madrid won the quintet of Classico’s consecutive victories. It is the first time that both sides have enjoyed such an advantage since Barcelona of Pep Guardiola won 5-0 at Camp Nou in 2010.

It wasn’t a shock that both Vini Jr. and Madrid’s deadly offensive duo Karim Benzema scored again, and the wonderful Ansu Fati returned home for the first time in two months.

Surprisingly, the youthful Barcelona team, 17 points behind LaLiga’s Real Madrid, is likely to push Madrid at King Fahad Stadium and the Fati’s second half equalizer will reach the final. It was 10 minutes after it looked like.

Xavi Hernandez said the match was a “test” for his team and it would be tough not to conclude that they passed, even if they lost the match. After all, the 11 in Barcelona included Pedri (19), Ezzalzo (20), Fati (19), Nico Gonzalez (20) and Ronald Araujo (22).

Madrid’s own young gem, Vini Jr., may turn out to be the best of many, Brazilians are almost unstoppable again. However, Luuk de Jong tied with Barcelona and Federico Valverde was needed to decide the winner in overtime after Fati canceled Benzema’s strike.

Barcelona was barely recognizable from the beginning and was encouraged by the return of several major players. Fati, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Araujo are all back injured. Torres also made his debut 15 days after completing his transfer from Manchester City. He was negative to Covid and was eventually registered by La Liga, and Barca gave him more budget by extending Samuel Umtiti’s contract.

Real Madrid were on the better side early on, moving smoothly through the midfield and making more sense in the attack. But when the goal came, it was due to an error from Sergio Busquets. The veteran stole the ball in the central circle. Benzema found him taking a nap, received it from Luka Modric, and sent the ball to the road of Vini Jr. With three perfect touches, he controlled, pushed him away from Ronald Fedeli and lifted the ball to the net.

I rarely predicted an equalizer in Barcelona that arrived four minutes before half-time. Edel Militao met Ousmane Dembele’s cross to the near post, but his clearance was bombarded by De John’s extended leg and the ball bounced off the post. Pedri and Abde played half-time, Barca speeded up, and Pedri fired a lot shortly after the restart. Fati came for De John, the team suddenly seemed more menacing.

However, Benzema was the closest to Vini Jr. He skillfully made enough space in the penalty area and broke his left foot shot against the post. Madrid are now scoring again and in the 72nd minute they attacked. Ferland Mendy skipped Alves and cut back for Benzema. Benzema’s efforts were pushed to the left by Marc Andre ter Stegen.

Dani Carvajal was there to drive in the ball and Tel Stegen made the block again, but this time he fell to Benzema and adjusted and finished. With seven minutes remaining, Madley was approaching, but Fati intervened. Memphis Depay played the corner short, Jordi Alba’s cross found space in the box, and Fati jumped and stretched towards the corner.

For the remaining minutes, Barcelona took the lead, Dembele passed the race and Pedri was rejected by Nacho Fernandez. They started well in overtime, but were probably over-exercised as Madrid suddenly went 5-3. Vini Jr. ran through Rodrigo’s pullback and Barberde, with Benzema and Casemiro rolling next to him. —AFP
