More than 60% of people with immigrant backgrounds have experienced discrimination in meetings with the city of Oslo over the past year, according to a report commissioned by the municipality.
“These are serious numbers. We want to be a municipality for everyone, both as a service provider and as an employer,” said Rina Mariann Hansen, city council member for work, integration and social services. AP) told the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).
The city of Oslo has commissioned a report from the Church, Religion and Worldview Institute (KIFO – Institute of Kirk, Religion, livssynsforskning).
According to Hansen, municipalities will use this report to see what can be improved.
The report points out that racism and discrimination are perceived as a permanent and significant challenge at minority meetings with the city of Oslo as an organization of various disciplines.
Minotenk’s Lisa Esohel Knudsen believes the report quantifies the experience they already know. She is pleased that the municipality has mapped this for the first time and believes that a better reporting system needs to be introduced.
