Roglic loses red jersey at La Vuelta

BILBAO – Team Jumbo Visma’s Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič lost the red jersey to Groupama FDJ’s Rudy Molard at La Vuelta. Roglić finished the fifth stage of the Grand Tour of Spain as he crossed his line in 23rd place, placing him fifth in the overall standings. He was five minutes and nine seconds slower than stage winner Marco Soler of the UAE.

The only other Slovenian in the race, UAE Team’s Jan Polank, finished 46th, placing him 39th in the overall standings.

On the 187-kilometer stage between Irun and the coastal town of Bilbao, Morado finished fourth, four seconds behind Soler. Israel Premier Daryl of his Tech He Impey was his second and Bahrain his team Fred Wright was his third.

Expect a change at the top of the race tomorrow as the cyclists leave Bilbao to tackle the first mountain stage. The 181-kilometer stage includes the ascent of San Miguel de Aguayo over 800 meters above sea level. Roglic loses red jersey at La Vuelta
