Rohit nominates test captain as Pujara and Rahane drops

Rohit Sharma was nominated yesterday as the test captain of India, one of the most pressured jobs in the world of sports, and completed the takeover of leadership across the cricket format after Virat Kohli was sent off.
Selector Chetan Sharma said the 34-year-old will lead the team in two test series against Sri Lanka starting March 4.
“Rohit Sharma is the number one cricket player in our country,” he said. “King Kori” resigned as India’s test captain in January after resigning as T20 leader last year, and was subsequently dismissed as an ODI skipper.
Known as “Hitman” with hundreds and six hits, Rohit led the team to a one-day series sweep in the West Indies this month.
He led the Mumbai Indians on the IPL side to five record titles and had already taken over the captain of Whiteball following Kori’s sudden departure.
Rohit is a front runner who has always taken over the testing work and has been a regular member of the testing team since he started batting in India in the 2nd century in October 2019.
White Ball Star’s Swashback Ring Buttsman has recorded 3,047 runs, including the 8th century, in 43 tests since its debut in 2013.
His aggressive batting and enthusiasm for big scores – he scored 177 in his test debut and has a top score of 212 – making him a fan favorite.
Critics emphasize Rohit’s injured career and the fact that he is 18 months older than Kori. That is, he may turn out to be a temporary skipper before a young person, such as Reshab Pants, takes over. His full physique also contrasts with lean fitness fanatic Kori, but selection chairman Chetan dismissed concerns about the new captain.
Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah was appointed as Rohit’s test lieutenant and fought for him to become the next skipper.
Meanwhile, senior batsman Azinka Rahane and Cheteswar Puhara have dropped out of the Indian test team for the Sri Lankan series yesterday.
Both Pujara and Rahane are suffering from bats and have been told to return to India’s premier national redball tournament, the Ranji Trophy Tournament, to regain their lost shape.
Wicketkeeper-Batsman’s Wriddhiman Saha and veteran high-speed bowler Ishant Sharma also got an ax.
Bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Jadeya will return to the team with spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was chosen to be in good shape before the test. The second test, a day and night game, will take place in Bangalore from March 12th.
Former captain Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper Buttsman, Reshab Pants, will take a break for the final T20 with the West Indies and the T20 series with Sri Lanka starting Thursday.
