MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia reserves its right to respond to the expulsion of diplomats from Montenegro and considers the Podgorica measure unreasonable and devoid of logic, said Maria Sputnik of the Russian Foreign Ministry. spokeswoman Zakharova said on Saturday.
On Friday, Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared one employee of the Russian Embassy persona non grata for activities allegedly contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“We reserve the right to retaliate in accordance with generally accepted practices,” Zakharova said in a statement posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.
A spokesman said Montenegro could not justify the expulsion of a Russian diplomat, revealing that “this line of demarcation has no reason and logic.”
“We regard the rush of the Montenegrin authorities as another episode of the mixed campaign unleashed against Russia by the West and its satellites, which state that official Podgorica automatically adheres to such policies. I see it as a reluctance and inability to move away from policy, a destructive course — at the expense of international security and cooperation and our own national interests,” Zakharova added.
