YEREVAN (Sputnik) – The Russian embassy in Armenia has expressed its condolences following the deadly explosion at Yerevan’s Surmal market.

On Sunday, Yerevan city council reported that more than 20 people were missing after an explosion at the fireworks storage area in the capital’s Surmal shopping center. Three people were killed and 61 injured in the explosion, according to the mayor’s office.

The Russian Embassy said: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who died as a result of the explosion that occurred on the territory of the Surmal Shopping Center this afternoon. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.” said. Sunday social media.

Death toll in Yerevan market explosion rises to 3 – Armenian Ministry of Emergencies

Armenia’s emergency ministry spokesman Haiku Kostanyan said on social media after midnight on Sunday that the identities of three people killed in the blast had been determined, but the fate of another 17 remained unknown. According to Kostanyan, the dead include two women and one man.

Armenia’s emergency services told Sputnik that experts from the Russian-Armenian Humanitarian Aid Center helped extinguish the blaze on Sunday.
