As in the past, for the time being, only a summary version of the comprehensive set of figures was presented. The detailed version will not be released until summer. It is already known that the assessment shows a decrease in the total number of cases, as confirmed by a press release from the Senate Ministry of Interior on Friday (April 22, 2022).

Berlin crime is reduced overall

Last year, a total of 482,127 crimes were registered in Berlin. This is a 4.4% decrease compared to 2020. An important issue for police is a scam involving the Coronavirus Testing Center. According to a statement made by Secretary of the Interior Torsten Akmann (SPD) in early April, 335 billing fraud investigations are currently underway at the test center. Overall, property, billing and counterfeit crimes increased by 6.3%. Gasoline and diesel thefts at Berlin gas stations also increased significantly in 2021, especially this year.

Many crimes not recorded in statistics

Crime statistics only reflect registered crimes. Crimes such as murder, robbery, robbery, and car theft are statistically very high, as victims most often report to the police. However, most drug crimes, shoplifting, and insults have not been recorded. Similarly, child assault, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse are often undetectable and do not appear in the statistics. As a result, crime statistics are only meaningful in certain areas.

Fewer politically motivated crimes

The total number of politically motivated crimes has also decreased by 4.9% compared to 2020. According to statistics, the resolution rate of the case is 39.2%, which is also improved. Both politically right-wing motives and the number of left-wing extremist criminal cases have dropped significantly. However, the number of anti-Semitic crimes has increased-422 cases recorded here. This is an increase of 14.7 percent compared to the previous year.
