Shorter quarantine period in case of infection – Berlin.de

The Berlin Senate has decided to shorten the quarantine period in the case of a coronavirus infection.

In the future, infected individuals should be quarantined for only 5 days if they are asymptomatic for 48 hours and can show a negative test. It was announced by Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffy (SPD) on Tuesday (May 3, 2022) after the Senate meeting.

Reduce quarantine time only when there are no symptoms

Previously, quarantine was required for 7-10 days based on various criteria. In the future, if there are no symptoms after 5 days, the quarantine will be extended for up to 10 days until the symptoms disappear and the test result is negative.

Mild disease progression based on Omicron

The Senate had already discussed the issue at a meeting last Tuesday, but postponed the decision due to unresolved questions. Most recently, the federal and state health ministers have re-discussed and agreed in principle on shortening the deadline. After last Thursday’s switching meeting, they mentioned an increase in the population’s immunity and a milder course of infection with the Omicron mutant.
