Singapore reports 3,553 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, Aug. 18 (Xinhua News Agency) — Singapore reported 3,553 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total to 1,809,251.

Of the new cases, 432 were detected by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests and 3,121 by ART (Rapid Antigen Test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Of the PCR-infected cases, 395 were domestic infections and 37 were imported infections. Among ART cases assessed as mild and low risk, there were 2,940 domestically acquired and 181 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 479 cases are currently in hospital, with 11 in intensive care units.

Five deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Thursday, bringing the total death toll to 1,572, the ministry said.
