A Slovak man who tried to use a fake Hungarian license plate while refueling a car in western Hungary was charged with being subject to capped fuel prices, the Zara County Prosecutor’s Office said. said on Monday.
Earlier this year, the government capped fuel prices at 480 forints (1.19 euros) per liter for refueling vehicles with Hungarian license plates in an effort to squeeze petrol tourism.
The 29-year-old man in question was passing through Hungary on his way back to Hungary. Slovakia Csaba Pirger, spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office, told MTI from his vacation in Croatia earlier last month. When he arrived in Nagykanica, he wanted to refuel his car, but had his license plate replaced with a fake plastic Hungarian one he got in Slovakia and was charged with capped fuel prices. I made it a target.
When I got to the petrol station, I asked the manager how much fuel I could buy, but I got scared and drove off without refueling. He put the real license plate back in the car just 50 meters from his gas station and placed the fake license plate in the car’s passenger compartment.
The station manager reported the incident to the police. Later, police found the man at another gas station and confiscated his fake license plate.
The Nagykanizsa District Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged the man with abuse of the unique identifier.
