Focused on weight loss and improving quality of life, Moncalapacho’s Solar Albula Health Hotel is the brainchild of a Finnish doctor with a dream.
The Algarve has a new holiday concept since the opening of the Solar Alvura Health Hotel, an elegant boutique hotel surrounded by orange and almond orchards overlooking the sea and mountains. Solar Alvura, which opened in June, is a haven of total relaxation and tranquility, with the sole purpose of offering guests the opportunity to recharge, rejuvenate and lose weight.
The idea of creating a unique concept focused on health tourism has been on the mind of Dr. Eva Orsmond for 20 years since she founded her clinic in Ireland. One in Dublin and one in Galway, he specializes in weight loss and he treats type 2 diabetes.
I had already published several books and participated in TV shows, but I still had one dream left to fulfill. She explored countries such as Italy and France, but it was Portugal, more precisely her pesdo, that she fell in love with after coming across some ruins on her farm dating back to 1868. It was Moncalapacho (Ollon) in the Cerro area.
Construction work began in 2017, with an investment of 3 million euros in the project. “It was a challenge, but the results are amazing,” says the doctor, who believes her hotel has brought a new perspective on tourism to Algarve and the country.
And how did the idea come about? “Most people report good results with a prescribed diet plan and medical monitoring. I always thought that these types of people needed an otherworldly place away from their usual surroundings so they could retreat for a while.
“I wanted an elegant place where I could eat healthy, cook, and exercise. Above all, I wanted to be able to offer options that were readily available all year round,” says Eva Orsmond. says Mr.
Spread across more than four hectares, the hotel offers 21 rooms, a gym, outdoor pool, Moroccan-style heated pool, spa, treatment rooms, beauty salon, yoga tents, meditation terraces, library and even an olive There is also an oil press. There are different experiences that begin at Faro Airport as soon as our guests arrive.
“I want this space to be a source of inspiration. Whether you’re on a solo retreat or wherever you’re coming from, I’ll pick you up at the airport if you want. I want you to be stress-free from the moment you arrive in the Algarve. I include this service in my package, and I always get a little nervous when I arrive at a new destination, so I want to avoid that here,” she explains.
Upon arrival at the boutique hotel, the first step is an initial assessment of each guest, performed by Eva Ausmond herself. The idea is to get to know each client better, understand their goals, and if they have any comorbidities, allergies, or dietary restrictions. We will advise you and provide a personalized and individual service.
In addition to the regular routine and rejuvenation programs at Solar Alvura, there are three programs, each with a different meal plan for each guest profile. The first is dedicated to rapid weight loss and lasts a minimum of 7 days, allowing guests to lose 2.5kg to 5kg.
A gradual weight loss program with the same minimum duration would see a weight loss of 0.5kg to 3kg. A program designed for weight maintenance, on the other hand, involves a three-night stay and a diet with no calorie deficit. This is a new holiday trend, and it becomes even more important after lockdown.Of course, our clients can also stay here to relax.Everyone sets their own goals,” explains Eva Orsmond. To do.
Prices vary depending on the program selected. For 7 nights he costs 550 euros for 2 people. On the other hand, the long-stay program costs around 1,925 euros per person. Even with such different programs, every guest can enjoy a variety of food offerings for breakfast, lunch, dinner and her three snacks. There is only one pitfall. Alcohol is strictly prohibited at Solar Alvura. That doesn’t happen here. Evenings are quiet and relaxing, but there is also time to relax with a mocktail accompanied by a live pianist.
Days are scheduled for sports classes such as water aerobics, HIIT, yoga, meditation, walks, beach trips, golf, and even cooking classes with hotel chefs Samuel Gabriel and Edgar Pereira.
Solar Alvura also plans to have animals on site and a vegetable garden. “This project is my dream and these are just the first steps,” she concludes Eva Orsmond.
