Special envoy of Turkey and Armenia to negotiate normalization in Russia

Moscow will host the first meeting between the Turkish and Armenian special envoys to discuss steps to normalize relations between the two countries.

In a year-end assessment of Turkey’s foreign policy, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mebrut Chabsogur said on Monday that national envoys should first speak on the phone to determine the date and place of the face-to-face meeting.

“Our impression is that the first meeting will take place in Moscow, as Armenia wants. We also want to communicate directly apart from the first meeting … we speak directly. We have special envoys appointed to each other for, “Cavusoglu said.

He said a roadmap for normalizing relationships needs to be set, adding that this will be the agenda for the first meeting.

Keeping in mind that charter flights between Turkey and Armenia will soon begin, he reiterated that Turkey is proceeding with normalization discussions in consultation and coordination with Azerbaijan.

Positive rhetoric

Armenian rhetoric has been positive so far, and Turkey’s top diplomats added that Turkey also wanted to take action.

Citing Turkey and Armenia’s attempt to normalize relations in 2009, Kabsoguru said this previous attempt was “in good faith”, but the new process is different. ..

“Within the framework of this process, new steps need to be taken to normalize the relationship, which is important for the stability, peace and prosperity of the Caucasus,” he said.

On December 15, Turkey appointed former US Ambassador Serdar Kılıcz as a special envoy to discuss normalization procedures with Armenia.

Three days later, Armenia also appointed a special representative for a dialogue with Turkish Parliamentary Vice-Chair Ruben Rubinyan.
