State budget deficit exceeds 100 billion crowns in April

According to the Czech Treasury, the state’s budget deficit increased from 59.1 billion in March to 100 billion crowns at the end of April. The 2022 state budget, approved in March, estimates a deficit of 280 billion crowns, about 100 billion crowns less than the one proposed by Andrej Babiš’s former government. The Fiara administration is determined to close the fiscal gap, but economists say it is impossible to maintain a deficit within the expected 280 billion crowns given the impact of the war in Ukraine. Says. The government has sent Ukraine 3 billion crowns of military aid, accepted more than 320,000 refugees, and approved it to provide social benefits to low-income households to compensate for rising inflation.
