Suppression does not extinguish dissent: AKD

Colombo (No.1 News) – The leader of the National People’s Power, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, addressed a media briefing, saying the voices of the people cannot be silenced by state repression.

At a press conference, Dissanayake pointed out that arrested suspects should not be put in jail even for a day.

“People who have been convicted in court, sentenced to four years in prison and fined $2 million are holding portfolios of ministers. They should not. What crimes have they committed?Did they loot public property?Waste public funds?” NPP leaders demanded.

He stressed that people can’t help but feel anger and sadness when they see country-loving comrades imprisoned and those who should be imprisoned with ministerial portfolios.
