Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris for president – Mercury News

Taylor Swift said Tuesday that she is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, ending speculation about if and when the superstar singer would express her political views ahead of the November election.
Harris became the Democratic nominee in July after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, and in August announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
In 2020, Swift voiced her support for Biden and Harris as they sought the White House.
Swift had remained politically silent for most of her nearly two-decade career until endorsing two Democratic candidates from Tennessee in the 2018 midterm elections. Since then, she has been a vocal supporter of Democratic policies and candidates, urging her supporters to vote, and advocating for women's rights, reproductive health, and LGBTQ+ rights.
In the 2020 documentary Miss Americana, Swift expressed regret for not speaking out on political issues sooner, and in an emotionally charged scene, told her father Scott Swift that she felt the need to “be on the right side of history.”
In another instance, she criticized former President Donald Trump.
A faction of Swift's supporters (known as Swifties) rallied around the 2024 election cycle, forming a Swifties community online in support of Kamala shortly after Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris.
The group, which is not affiliated with Swift and has thousands of followers on X, raised more than $122,000 during a two-hour kickoff call in August, with speakers including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and singer Carole King.
“We believe Harris-Waltz will fight for our rights and the rights of our loved ones and make this country a safer place for everyone,” Carly Long, communications director for Swifties for Kamala, previously told CNN.
