The government will promote the relocation of the National Maternity Hospital

The government plans to promote plans to place a National Maternity Hospital at the St. Vincents Hospital Site in Dublin.

Taoiseach Michelál Martin said concerns about the ownership agreement for the new hospital were “comprehensively addressed.”

He told RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland that, in his view, the current hospital is not fit for purpose, and planning a new hospital is a significant step forward.

He said the proposal to place it in the same place in St. Vincent was agreed by experts 20 years ago and part of the debate has been lost.

The fear of ownership was comprehensively addressed through the new hospital constitution, which is obliged to carry out all legal procedures in the state.

He said the new hospital is more “secular” than the current hospital, which had already performed all these procedures, and the Minister of Health also has the authority to instruct the hospital to provide such services. Added.
