Breitling, a leading Swiss watchmaker, has released a new collection of sporty seawatches. It follows the simplified aesthetics of the original Superocean slow motion, while adding modern features and a bright color palette.
It’s no longer just a diver’s watch. You can surf, swim, and even take it to the beach bar.
“I’ve been co-producing Breitling and watches for the past few years, and this is especially personal,” says Kelly Slater, a member of the Breitling surfer team.
“It was inspired by my late father, who had an orange-faced watch he wore while surfing, as far as I can remember. The green and orange color scheme It was often used for air brushes on growing boards. The combination always sticks to me. ”
The watch assortment includes a special edition of the Superocean Automatic 42 Kelly Slater, co-designed with the Surf Champion, limited to 1000 pieces. This watch features a stunning orange dial and a military green rubber strap. The color scheme is inspired by the watch Slater’s dad wore while surfing.
The collection was unveiled to the media, retailers and influencers at the Wheels & Waves Surf and Motorcycle Festival in Biarritz.
The event continued with a day of sea-themed activities, including surprise visits from European surf and screen personalities.
Breitling CEO Georges Kern said of the festival: “Although most divers’ watches have some similarities in appearance, slow motion has always stood out from the crowd. We are very pleased to introduce you to this classic, all-new Superocean modern take. ”
Available in four sizes (46, 44, 42 and 36 mm), the colorful dial of this collection is paired with three different case metals: steel, steel gold and bronze.
The special alloys used in the 44mm and 42mm bronze versions have excellent corrosion resistance, but over time they develop a subtle patina, making the watch even more unique.
Two strap options (sporty rubber strap and new three-row metal bracelet) have foldable clasps, fine-tuning up to 15 mm, and easy to wear in rush or diving suits.
The new SuperOcean is not only visually appealing, but also technically stunning. It is water resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet) and features a wide range of hands and indexes coated with Superluminova for outstanding readability in water. The scratch-resistant ceramic inlaid bezel prevents wear and fading.
The bezel is unidirectional for most sizes and is bidirectional with a patented lock on the 46mm for added security.
This watch is also resistant to shock, sand and salt water. The self-winding Breitling Caliber 17 movement has a two-year warranty and a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
The collection has been revised to meet the needs of modern wearers, but the sharp eyes will find some design nods to the original. The fan recognizes a “dot”, which is a circular window at 6 o’clock. This window displays different colors depending on whether the minute-based chronograph is on, paused, or off. In the new Superocean, the circle near the tip of the second hand gives a wink to its highly beloved feature.
The new SuperOcean has something that everyone can enjoy. Collectors recognize the strong impact of slow motion, water sports enthusiasts appreciate its technical features, and style-conscious people are drawn to the variety from the beach to the conference room that day and night.
The new SuperOcean perfectly balances the nostalgia of its heritage with a fresh new wave.
