The Pentagon releases the first video of the Kabul airstrike that killed civilians

The unsuccessful strike killed 10 civilians, including aid worker Zemari Ahmadhi, his relatives, and children.

The Pentagon has declassified and released video footage of a US drone strike in Kabul in the last few hours of the chaotic US withdrawal that ended the 20-year war in Afghanistan.

The New York Times obtained the footage through an information disclosure lawsuit against the United States Central Command. Post Image to website on Thursday.

This marks the first release of a video footage of the August 29 strike, first defended by the Pentagon, but later called a tragic mistake.

The video contains approximately 25 minutes of footage from two MQ-9 Reaper drones reported by the Times.

The footage shows a scene of a strike before, during, and after a missile attacks a civilian vehicle in a residential courtyard.

Blurred images show individuals moving in or near the attack zone.

‘error’

The military said it had attacked what appeared to be “radicals” with the Daesh Group’s Afghan affiliates, which could explode bombs near Kabul Airport, where evacuation is taking place in a hurry.

Three days ago, a suicide bomber at the airport killed 13 US troops and more than 160 Afghans.

Later, when he admitted the mistake in a drone attack on August 29, Central Command said he had determined that the man driving the car had nothing to do with the Daesh group.

The man was Zemari Ahmadi, who worked for Nutrition and Education International, a US-based aid agency.
