The third corona summer in Norway is approaching with less infection and no need for stricter restrictions, Nakstad tells Norway Today.

On May 24, Sweden announced that groups over the age of 65 would receive a fifth dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the fall.

Norway today I contacted the Assistant Health Director of the Norwegian Health Department Espennak stud Get his view on the Swedish decision and the current state of the coronavirus vaccination program in Norway.

“The Norwegian Institute for Public Health (FHI) is considering when and how to provide a fourth dose to age groups other than those previously recommended for booster immunization. A decision similar to the Swedish decision. I haven’t received a signal that I’m imminent, “Nakstad said in an email to Norway Today.

He added that FHI is considering recommending additional doses for people with a weakened immune system.

“FHI is considering additional doses for people with weakened immunity. As of today, a fourth dose is recommended, and additional doses for people with weakened immunity. May be recommended. “

Nakustad’s Summer Hopes

“As of last week, less than 10,000 Norwegians were enrolled in the positive SARS-CoV-2-test. The steady decline in confirmed cases and hospitalizations is approaching our third summer. The numbers are low, indicating that there is no need to tighten pandemic restrictions.

“But I’m not sure about global trends and the risk of a new pandemic wave this fall. I hope the best, but with 54 million SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests, the best. We are prepared for the worst with a preparatory plan for both the scenario and the worst, “Nakstad told Norway Today.

FHI: There are no major changes to the expected recommendations between spring and summer

On May 25, FHI announced that Norwegian municipalities may be required to provide a fourth dose of the corona vaccine to people aged 65 and over in the fall.

So far, FHI has only allowed a fourth dose to some people over the age of 80 and to groups with weakened immunity.

“Unless the infection and risk situation changes, we do not expect significant changes in the recommendations between spring and summer,” FHI wrote to the municipality earlier this month.

But shortly after the summer, FHI expects to make new recommendations, FHI’s head, Are Stuwitz Berg, emailed the NTB.

“Currently the most likely scenario is that municipalities are required to provide new doses in the fall to age groups 65 and older and some other risk groups. To some age groups (recommendations). It may be related (to get it out), but this hasn’t been revealed yet, “said the letter to the municipality.
