This is how the PC industry has evolved over the years.

How has the PC industry evolved over the years?
The industry was undoubtedly prosperous, but the Covid-19 pandemic brought it back to life. The PC industry has gone through a new cycle of returning to the devices that are essential to people’s lives. It was once questioned whether smartphones could replace PCs, but today the two have proven to be mutually beneficial. For us, it’s an exciting time to capture the value of the market. We have many strategies and have observed some prosperous areas such as games and educational equipment. Green PC is now available. It is environmentally friendly and carefully designed to adapt to sustainability and global needs.

What do I have to say about supply chain issues? How is Acer catching up with it and how has it affected your sales?
Despite supply chain challenges, the top line also increased by 30% in two years. The pandemic has made us agile and smarter in allocating resources to the right markets, the right times, and the right sectors. Games were prioritized along with subsegments such as education. The supply of basic PCs was limited. However, demand has changed as video conferencing on the PC required better camera capabilities. Therefore, the shortage of infamous semiconductors has not been completely eliminated, but it has been significantly improved.

Please tell us about the new product lineup.
Chromebooks continue to be a source of innovation, but our top priority is green PCs. The chassis uses 30% PCR plastic, which reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 21%. PCR plastics made from used resin are environmentally friendly, more sustainable and minimize landfill waste. Add PCR to the keycap as well. Also, there is no need to paint or stick stickers on the chassis. Standardized screws are used for ease of repair, upgrade and recycling. In addition, the unpainted chassis reduces the negative effects of VOCs. Devices in the gaming segment, on the other hand, account for 20-25% of our revenue.

What do you think about the decline in Chromebook sales?
Chromebooks are the device of choice in a particular market. The slump in Chromebook sales is not a fundamental issue. I think this is because the demand in the education field is very high. We are confident that Chromebooks will play an important role in the market in the long run. However, short-term confusion can occur.

Will Acer enter the smartphone segment in the future?
To be honest, it’s not. Last year, we announced a rugged tablet series that proved popular. So, with some success, it’s a niche market. However, the mobile phone business has long-established companies, and I think it is a highly competitive field. As a result, instead focus on other aspects of service software. We are also considering alternative business models such as PC leasing.
