According to officials, a thunderstorm in Albania flooded the city, causing a power outage in the capital and killing at least one person on Thursday.

Police said a 51-year-old man died in a fire after a lightning strike struck a house in a village in northwestern Dedaji, causing an electrical short circuit. Another man was injured, police said.

Another man was found drowning in the waters of the southwestern city of Vlorë, but investigators have not determined whether his death was related to the weather.

Many cities along the Albanian coast were flooded after two hours of extraordinary heavy rain. Farmers in southeastern Albania complained that the downpour had damaged all of their spring crops.

In Saranda, the southernmost city of Albania, lightning damaged apartment buildings.

Albania experienced two weeks of heat, with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius.
