ANKARA (Sputnik) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that he had been invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan in September.
The SCO Summit will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 15-16.
“Shanghai Five will meet in Uzbekistan in September. During our meeting [in Sochi], Mr. Putin also asked me: if there is an opportunity, we will attend the conference there, I am counting on it. We said let’s join those who join the Shanghai Five as members, observers or dialogue partners. For example, China is there, and Saudi Arabia and Qatar are on the other side. We are eager to be with them. I hope I’ll be there too, unless something special happens,” Erdogan told journalists on a flight from Sochi.
The two leaders met in the southwestern Russian city of Sochi on Friday to discuss the United Nations-brokered grain trade between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkstream gas pipeline, the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, and Russian gas shipments to Turkey. We discussed payment in rubles. The situation in the Middle East, and other issues on the agenda.
