Turkiye condemns attack on Al-Aqsa mosque by extremist Jewish group

Turkiye condemned the attack by some Israeli militant groups on the al-Aqsa mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem and called on the Israeli authorities to take necessary measures.

“The Israeli militant group’s raid on the al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli security forces was condemned and deemed unacceptable,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday. rice field.

“We urge the Israeli authorities to take the necessary steps immediately to ensure that these practices, which violate the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its status under international law, are not permitted and tensions do not escalate,” it added.

Earlier in the day, settlers protected by Israeli security forces stormed the compound as it marked the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which began on Sunday.

An eyewitness told the Anadolu news agency.

The complex was lined with large numbers of police officers, some patrolling the Kibuli Mosque, one of the main prayer halls in the complex.

Palestinians attacked

Over the past week, several Jewish extremist groups have encouraged settlers to storm Al-Aqsa during the New Year holidays.

A Palestinian group called on Palestinians to maintain a presence in the complex over the next few days.

Witnesses said Israeli security personnel assaulted Palestinians, forced many to leave the facility, and blocked dozens more from entering.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, at least two Palestinians needed medical attention after the attack by the Israeli army.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest place in the world for Muslims. A Jew called this area the Temple Mount and in ancient times he said it was the site of two Jewish temples.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.

The rest of the city was annexed in 1980, but the move was not recognized by the international community.
