Jammu; After spending 29 years in a Pakistani prison, Katua resident Kurdeep Singh returned to his hometown on Friday night.
Shin (53), along with Mohammad Gufran of Aurangabad, was released from Pakistan on Monday and arrived at the Red Cross Bavan at the Grunanak Development Hospital in Punjab after returning home.
According to Shin, Pakistani agencies tortured him for three years after being arrested in 1992. He appeared in court on suspicion of espionage and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Shin, a resident of the village of Makwal in Kathua’s Villawar, burned firecrackers and received a warm welcome from the country and the villagers with a slogan to praise him.
My message to all my friends, villagers, and especially young people, is to stay away from the wrong path that can harm them. But when it comes to making sacrifices for the country, he never pulls back, he told reporters.
After he was arrested in Pakistan, his family said he knew his whereabouts only when he wrote to them from Kot Lakpat Prison in Lahore.
They said they had lost all hope because they had not been in contact with Singh for the past eight years after the murder of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of spying.
According to relatives, I’m glad he’s back and staying with us for years.
