UK government removes new restrictions before Christmas

London: The UK government said Thursday that it would not introduce a new coronavirus restriction until after Christmas and called for encouraging early research on the severity of the Omicron variant.

Health Minister Sajid Javid said two studies suggesting that Omicron has a significantly lower risk of hospitalization than the previously predominant Delta strain encourages the news. But he said it wasn’t very clear yet … depending on how much the risk was reduced.

The UK Health Security Agency will release new data on Omicron later Thursday.

Two studies by researchers at Imperial College London and Scotland found that patients with Omicron were 20% to 68% less likely to require hospital treatment than patients with Delta.

South African data, where the subspecies was first detected, also suggest that Omicron may be milder.

Scientists need to weigh the reduction in severity against the fact that Omicron spreads much faster than Delta and can avoid vaccines, even if the results of these early studies are maintained. I’m emphasizing.

Given these factors, the number of infections is so high that new variants can still overwhelm the healthcare system.

This month, the British conservative government reinstated the rules requiring face masks in stores and gave evidence of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test before entering nightclubs and other crowded areas to slow the spread of Omicron. I commanded people to show.

Authorities also took regular tests and urged people to reduce socializing.

Many people in the UK are listening to that advice, and the entertainment and hospitality industry should be the busiest time of the year.

The government provides grants and loans to support restaurants, bars, theaters and other venues, but many say they aren’t enough to stop them from falling.

The rules set by the UK Government apply to the UK.

Scotland, England and other parts of Northern Ireland have slightly more stringent restrictions, such as the closure of nightclubs.

Javid says the UK government will continue to analyze the data and will analyze it if something needs to be done, but nothing more will happen before Christmas.

All of us are paying attention, but people should enjoy Christmas with family and friends, of course, he said.

The government wants vaccine boosters to provide a breakwater against Omicron, as the data suggest, and has set a goal of providing a third for everyone over the age of 18 by the end of December.
