Moscow (Sputnik)-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Plumdwinai signed two documents on Sunday to further advance the strategic alliance and partnership between the two countries.

“Today we conclude with a Thai-US communiqué signature on strategic alliances and partnerships, a testament to our close alliance and long-standing friendship, with common values and commonalities. We set strategic goals based on our values. After meeting with Brinken, Mr. Plumdwinai told the media.

Blinken visited Thailand, one of Asia’s strongest US allies, the day after meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Indonesia. This is the first time Blinken has made an official visit to Thailand, which coincides with the 190th anniversary of diplomatic relations between nations.

The former communiqué was signed 60 years ago by its predecessors, Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Foreign Minister Tanat Koman.

The second document, the Memorandum of Understanding, aims to promote supply chain cooperation in key industrial and technological innovations.

Blinken, meanwhile, said he and Plumdwinai had a “very productive dialogue” focusing on bilateral relations between Washington and Bangkok, collaboration with ASEAN, and other issues. US officials have praised Thailand as an important partner in the region. Thailand shares “Free, Open, Interrelated, Prosperous, Resilient and Safe Indo-Pacific Goals”. He especially emphasized the importance of cooperation in economics, security and climate issues.

Thailand is considered an important non-NATO ally of the United States in the region. The military and strategic partnership between the two countries peaked during the US Indochina War (1965-1975), when Thailand acted as the back of the U.S. forces fighting in Vietnam and Thai soldiers fought on the U.S. side. ..

In recent decades, relations between the two countries have developed as China’s influence continues to grow in the Southeast Asian region, where Thailand also maintains close cooperation in the areas of trade and economy.

Thailand maintains friendly relations with Russia. In 2022, each country will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
