US basketball payer Greener hasn’t complained about pretrial detention conditions, her lawyer says

Russian Khimki (Sputnik)-US basketball player Brittney Griner, detained in Russia for drug trafficking, is not dissatisfied with the location and circumstances of his pretrial detention, her lawyer Maria Bragobolina said on Friday. Said.

The Khimki City Court in the Moscow region held its first hearing on Friday in the case of drug trafficking to Greener. At the hearing, the prosecutor read the indictment and two witnesses were questioned. A representative of the US Embassy in Moscow attended the hearing.

“Everything is going according to plan and law. I can’t comment on what witnesses said during the trial. I meet Britney on a regular basis and have no complaints about the location and conditions of detention. But she is, of course, worried. “

Mr Greener did not comment on the charges, the lawyer said, adding that she was exercising at her own weight and taking a walk because there was no gym in the pre-trial detention center.

Sputnik reported on Friday that the charges were apparent to Greener, but she communicated that she declined to comment. The court did not ask if the player intends to plead guilty.

Correspondents added that the trial was postponed until July 7, as some witnesses did not attend the hearing.

Greener, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in basketball, was detained at Moscow Airport in February after a police dog warned police officers of an arc cartridge containing cannabis extract in his luggage. She was accused of trafficking and illegal possession of drugs without the intention of selling them under Russian law.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in mid-June that Grinner was in breach of Russian law and would be prosecuted accordingly.
