Video: Protesters blockade the Elizabeth Bridge in Budapest-updated

BKK said on its Facebook page Monday morning that the Erzsébethíd to Buda was closed for demonstrations and is moving the bus lane towards the plague.

The demo was held by Hatvanngey Vármegye Youth Movement under the title “Freedom for Budahazy!”. To be on the safe side, in March the Budapest Metropolitan Court sentenced György Budaházy to 17 years in prison for terrorism and other crimes. Twenty years ago, on the same day, Budahazy and his colleagues closed the Elizabeth Bridge and demanded a recount of votes in the 2002 parliamentary elections.

Police said members of the group had been arrested and were charged with violating the provisions of the 2018 Law LV on the right to rally and for traffic violations. Action is underway, they added.

update

Protesters blocked all lanes by car. Shortly thereafter, police arrived, two tow trucks arrived at the bridge, and the protesters’ cars were carried away one by one.

The bridge is now clean and traffic is back to normal.
