Watch out for Tesla, Kia’s long-awaited EV6 finally available in Singapore

High hopes for Kia EV6 Finally we reached our shore. If you don’t know what the EV6 is, here’s a quick primer.

This is the brand’s flagship EV and is based on the company’s new purpose-built electric platform. E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform).

One of the highlights of this platform is 350kW fast chargingKia says the EV6 can get from 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutesRivals such as Tesla and Porsche both take about 20 minutes or at least 20 minutes.

That definitely sounds great, but the problem is that the fastest chargers on our island today are hitting 150kW. 350kW chargers are rare.

Not only that, but they are reportedly very expensive to build and maintain, so it remains to be seen how many will be found in Singapore.

Still, there are other things I like. The interior looks like a sensible mix of old and new Two large 12.3-inch displays Dedicated climate control. The luggage compartment is 520L with the seats folded down.

The styling is also approachable and considered by most people to be quite handsome. It somehow looks sleek yet muscular.

EV6 is here two variationsThere is a standard range single motor version and a long range dual motor version called the GT line.

The former is produced with a single electric motor 170hp and 350nm of torque It has a battery capacity of 58kWh suitable for about 528km (WLTP).

In the latter, dual electric motors are produced 325hp and 605nm of torque This is enough for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.2 seconds. This model has a larger 77.4kWh battery, but with that added performance comes a slightly shorter range of 506km (also WLTP).

The EV6’s biggest competitor is undoubtedly Tesla. Model YWhile the Telsa is more practical in terms of carrying capacity, the EV6 Counter has a more traditional interior that some drivers will appreciate.
