Man arrested for climbing Santa Monica Pier journey claiming to have bomb

Authorities closed California’s Santa Monica Pier on Monday after a person climbed the Ferris wheel and claimed to have a bomb, police mentioned. 

The incident started round 3:30 p.m. PST when the person started climbing the journey whereas carrying a bag. Witnesses informed police the person claimed he had a bomb. 

The Santa Monica Police Division mentioned they instantly started evacuating the pier and neighboring Pacific Park, whereas the Santa Monica Fireplace Division helped get folks off of the Ferris wheel. 

Police mentioned on Fb and X the person seemed to be in disaster, and a Disaster Administration Crew was on the scene to help. 

About an hour later, police mentioned they have been in a position to get the person off of the Ferris wheel and no bomb had been discovered. 

Shortly after, the person was taken into custody and police mentioned he was “transported to a neighborhood hospital for analysis.”

Simply earlier than 5 p.m. PST, the park and pier reopened to guests.
