How to change your AirTag battery: Replace easily with just a few steps
Apple AirTags are ingenious gadgets designed to help you keep track of items such as luggage, keys, backpacks, and more.
These compact, circular devices utilize Bluetooth technology and seamlessly integrate with iPhones through the Find My network. Emitting a signal detectable by any nearby Apple device, AirTags facilitate locating your belongings. Apple ensures privacy by encrypting and anonymizing the entire process.
Upon purchase, AirTags are instantly operational and can be paired with your Apple ID. However, over time, they will require a battery replacement.
How to replace AirTag battery
AirTags feature non-rechargeable batteries, meaning they must be replaced when they run low or expire. You’ll receive a notification on your phone when it’s time for a replacement, and a low battery alert will also appear in the Find My App.
To replace an AirTag battery:
- Firmly press and rotate the silver backplate counterclockwise.
- Remove the silver cover to access the battery compartment.
- Swap the old CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery with a new one.
- Replace the silver cover and twist it securely to close.
- The device will emit a sound, signaling it’s ready for use again.

To reset an Apple AirTag:
- Remove the back cover and the battery.
- Reinsert the battery and press until you hear a sound.
- Repeat this process four additional times.
- On the fifth iteration, a distinct sound will play.
